Interview

You are a professional player, how do you manage your tournament calendar and stay competitive at each event when traveling all over the world?

You can’t physically and mentally be 100% for the whole year-this is the reason why, unless there are emergencies (as could be need of points for the Olympics) you should distinguish 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc priority tournaments, where usually 1st priority tournaments are the ones you should be on shape and win (unless your priority is not winning…), 2nd might be putting a new stroke into your game, etc etc.

How have you prepared this new season? How many hours a week do you practice?

In this moment I’m not in the world ranking because after Beijing 2008 I decided to have a big break… 6 months ago I started to practice again, in the beginning just to find the strokes and the game again…lately to get in a good shape in order to begin to play tournaments. I practice 4 to 5 hours per day.

What are your goals for this season, from the club’s perspective and from an international perspective?

As I just said, my main goal is to get to the world ranking again, and to make it better and better to be able to compete at high level international tournaments. From the club’s perspective I will give my best and try to help the team as much as possible to its goal.

What advices would you give to young players dreaming to become a champion like you?

I think the most important thing, in sports as in life, is to do what one likes. To give the best without expecting anything from oneself and from people around . To wish to win without aiming for it and to play just for the fun of it. If your practice was good and you did all you could the results will come naturally.

What is your best achievement?

Olympic Qualification, Beijing 2008. 2008 Uganda, Iran, Mauritius International (and a few others of these tournaments).

What is your highest world rangking?

Top 30
